The 22-year-old Uruguayan striker, Olivera, opened up on Tuesday about the criticism he faces when playing for the Uruguayan national team and shared what surprised him most about life in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Speaking from Montevideo, Olivera explained he’s currently training in Uruguay due to the fires in Los Angeles. “I’m here waiting to see if I can travel back to the United States with my wife and kids. The club told me the fire isn’t under control yet because there’s no water in the reservoir, and the firefighters are struggling to contain it. Thankfully, the fire didn’t reach my house in L.A., but there’s so much smoke everywhere, and I’m worried for my kids’ health. I know Carlos Vela lost everything in his house near the beach,” he shared.

Olivera also mentioned conversations with his agent, Edgardo ‘El Chino’ Lasalvia, and the club president about the situation. “They told me I’ll be able to travel once things settle down. Right now, it’s just not worth it. With all that’s going on in the U.S., and me worrying about my family and the babies, it’s better to stay here until it’s safe.”
